As we celebrate our heritage, let us remember the story of the home of the graduate professional.  

One of the definitions of heritage is “features belonging to the culture of a particular society.”  Heritage is something that helps to shape who we are and what we value.  It is responsible for how we came to be and is a large part of who and what we are and can determine what we will become.

PPS was founded by a group of 8 dentists, in 1941, right in the middle of the second World War.  It was during this difficult time, that the dentists realised the need to protect themselves against the inability to perform the functions of their work, due to illness or injury.  Soon cover was extended to medical doctors, and over the past 76 years, other professions like engineers, lawyers, managers, IT and HR professionals, management consultants, etc. and professionals who work for themselves or are in corporate employment, were accepted as members and afforded the opportunity to secure their financial wellbeing.

The founding principles of PPS, is to provide peace of mind and financial security to a unique group of graduate professionals. Although our heritage, membership base and eligibility criteria have changed over the years, to be more inclusive of graduate professionals from all eligible fields, one thing has remained constant, and that is our exclusivity. PPS continues to be a member based organisation and is the only mutual company in the world that gives back 100% of its profits to its shareholders, called members.

PPS remains committed to helping people like you, the graduate professional, to protect your most valuable asset, your ability to earn an income, because we know that if you are looked after, your family is looked after. Through the years, PPS’ aim has been to create, protect and preserve your financial security. To stay true to this, PPS now offers life insurance, investments, medical aid, financial services  and short term insurance, to cater for all your insurance and investment needs.  

Besides what PPS stands for and the solutions that it offers its members, a very strong internal organisational culture, driven by its employees, also goes a long way, in making sure that the company meets its objectives of being member-centric and intermediary friendly.

Although times have changed and will continue to do so at an even faster pace, the need for financial security and peace of mind, is the same today, as it was 76 years ago.  This will not change in the foreseeable future or beyond.
