Ra-Thusa school principal leadership and management workshop

Published: June 22, 2016

The Wits School of Economic and Business Sciences (SEBS) is tackling one of the biggest challenges that South African schools are currently faced with, namely the need to nurture management and leadership skills.

The workshop is the brain child of Ms Tebogo Rakhudu, an academic administrator at SEBS. It will be held in collaboration with the Gauteng West Education District and is sponsored by the PPS.

SEBS will host school principals from 25 schools on the West-Rand on 27 and 28 June 2016 at the Professional Provident Society (PPS) offices in Parktown. The Ra-Thusa capacity building project for school principals aims to equip principals with leadership and business management skills.

This workshop promises to be an excellent opportunity for school principals to meet experts from relevant management fields in the School of Economic and Business Sciences (SEBS), where they will gain expert knowledge in financial management and budgeting, leadership and people management, resource and facilities management and the principles of project management.

“Management skills are vital for the principals to improve service delivery in their respective schools. We hope that this capacity building workshop can contribute to addressing some of the shortcomings and challenges that local schools face. This will hopefully alleviate some of the major problems in our education system in the long-run,” says Professor Jannie Rossouw, Head of SEBS.

“PPS is excited about this collaboration with SEBS and the Gauteng West Education District,” says Mr Gerhard Joubert of PPS.  “We trust that this is the first of more similar workshops to follow, as quality education is one of the major challenges facing South Africa,” he said.
